Sharon Real Estate
Like so many areas in and around Ontario and within the York Region, East Gwillimbury began to take shape in the late 18th Century. The interest in the area for habitation stemmed from the extension of Yonge Street to the village of Holland Landing from Lake Ontario. At the time, the Lieutenant charged with the duty of developing Upper Canada chose to name North East Gwillimbury after his wife (Elizabeth Gwillim). In 1850, the area officially became East Gwillimbury Township and in the latter part of the 19th Century, it became what it is today, the Town of East Gwillimbury. Within East Gwillimbury is a group of villages that include Holland Landing, Sharon, Brown Hill, River Drive, Franklin, Ravenshoe, Holt, Queensville and Mount Albert. Situated on the East Holland River, the Town of East Gwillimbury is also part of the Greater Toronto Area. A portion of East Gwillimbury lands include a spot in the greenbelt and nestled by a part of the Oak Ridges Moraine.
East Gwillimbury may not be a large urban and suburban place, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for it with innovation, strategic planning for residential development and energy efficiency. In 2006, the town’s council brought forth a new idea, why not make this town exurban and less suburban in nature, restrict the areas in which housing and industrial development could be raised? Taking this a step further, the council also implemented Energy Star qualifications on all residential constructions, which translates into energy-efficient housing. This strategic move ensures that all residents of East Gwillimbury are safeguarded against the rising costs of future energy and concerns of having to upgrade or retrofit their homes in the future. The real estate & commercial properties for sale are within the great villages of Queensville, Holland Landing, Mount Albert and Sharon. Each village has its own character and possesses incredible home buyer options with interesting perks (like large lot sizes, double car garages, beautiful verandas and nature all around). Property investors and home buyers will be delighted with the selection of quality, energy efficient houses (detached, semi-detached, townhouses and homes with additional acreage).
East Gwillimbury is one of the best places to raise a family, for the easy access to schools (5 public elementary, 2 Catholic elementary schools, and 2 secondary schools are located in nearby Newmarket) and healthcare institutions (Holland Landing Healthcare Centre). Transportation via Highway 404 passes right through East Gwillimbury (with alternates being Ravenshoe Road, Green Lane & Queensville Side Road) and public transportation is provided by York Region Transit and the GO Transit system (train and bus service from the East Gwillimbury GO Station).
Because of the highly-developed economy of East Gwillimbury and its firm ‘business bridge’ to Toronto and surrounding municipalities, this particular area of the Greater Toronto Area is primed for new businesses to flourish here. Forecasted growth in the next few years shows that East Gwillimbury is leaning towards one of the best spots to set up shop in the business sector and residential development. A strong and educated workforce residing locally will further enhance businesses of all types to have the support of the communities and its inhabitants.
Each village within East Gwillimbury has close community ties and a strong ‘recreational’ ethic. Many festivals and events take place all year long (Mount Albert Sports Day, Music at Civic Square, Mayor & Council New Year’s Breakfast, Culture Days, Haunted Halloween Hike, East Gwillimbury’s Farmer’s Market, Easter Bunny Hike, just to name a few). Healthy and active living is advocated here by use of the North Union community centre, sports arenas, visits to local farms and various parks and multiuse trails. Approximately 75% of East Gwillimbury is protected nature and not useable space for any type of construction or disturbance to the environment, which means that the trails that wind around this municipality are scenic and surrounded by untouched nature. Some of the best trails are: Vivian Creek Trail, Anchor Park Trail, Simcoe Trail, Holland River Trail, Sharon Hills Park Trail, Peggy’s Wood Trail, Rogers Reservoir Trail and Princess Trail. In Mount Albert, residents can enjoy the Millennium Garden and take advantage of the many parks. Some parks around the area include: Milne Park, Samuel Harper Court Park, Brown Hill Park, Peggy’s Wood Park, Stonehill Park, Tall Pines Park and Brenner Park.
For something a little different, East Gwillimbury residents can take a peek at the Sharon Temple National Historic Site or take a trip north of Holland Landing to access the shores of the Holland River that open up a winding path to Lake Simcoe and some quaint marinas along the way. The Silver Lakes Golf Course & Conference Centre allows for some down time on an 18-hole course. There are many outlets and shops that will take care of shopping opportunities and for an amazing bite to eat, the Tatlows Broiler Bar, the Twisted Fork and CrepeStar Dessert Café & Bistro all serve up some of the most scrumptious foods!
